IDEAS-STUDY Completes Recruitment and Scanning – March 12, 2018
IDEAS-Study Completes Recruitment and Scanning. Patient accrual and PET scans for the IDEAS Study are now complete. Although interim results for Aim 1 were announced in July 2017, complete Aim 1 data for the study are being analyzed currently. In the coming months, a manuscript will be prepared from these results and submitted for publication in a major scientific journal. Collection of Aim 2 data is ongoing and will continue through January 2019. Final results for the whole study are expected to be released in the first half of 2019. Read more

IDEAS-Study Closes to New Enrollment on Dec. 7. Thanks to your efforts, the IDEAS-Study is very close to reaching its accrual goal. The study is set to close to participant registration on Dec 7. Please recall that the pre-PET case report form is due within 7 days of registration and that the PET scan must be conducted within the next 30 days. Physicians who anticipate referring patients in the next several days are advised to check directly with the PET imaging center to be sure that the scan can be accommodated in the 30-day window. IDEAS Study Interim Results Show Clinical Impact of Brain Amyloid PET Scans IDEAS Study Principal Investigator Gil Rabinovici, MD, of the Memory and Aging Center, University of California, San Francisco, and colleagues reported early results from IDEAS assessing changes in patient management in the first 3,979 participants for whom data are complete. Heads-Up to Dementia Specialists: Aim 1 to Aim 2 Transition Sometime in mid-summer 2017, the IDEAS Study will register the last participant needed to meet the first objective of the study. Aim 1, as described in the protocol, “investigates the impact of amyloid PET on short-term patient management, by comparing pre-PET intendedmanagement to post-PET actual management. Data to address Aim 1 [is] collected from the first 11,050 participants completing both the amyloid PET scan and the post-PET visit.”. Read more

New HCPCS Level II Codes Q9982 and Q9983 The IDEAS team and the MACs are aware that CMS has three different transmittals to instruct the MACs to update systems with two new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) Level II Q codes for two of the amyloid imaging agents. Two of the transmittals have implementation dates of July 3, 2016 while the third coverage transmittal 1708 dated August 19, 2016, informs the MACs to implement the update on or after January 5, 2017.
